Within the project "Strengthening capacities of PLHIV  in Montenegro" Montenegrian Association against AIDS- CAZAS is organizing PLHIV self-support group meetings coordinated by the Center staff and a PLHIV person working with the group. There are 3 experts (psychologist, legal advisor and Infectious Disease Specialist ) to provide PLHIV with psycho-social and legal support and medical advice.

Montenegrian Asociation against AIDS-CAZAS within the project "Strengthening capacities of PLHIV in Montenegro" started with the surveys among PLHIV and their associates (families, friends and partners) as well as professionals who work with the PLHIV and their associates.
Together with 3 (three) PLHIV we designed a questionnaire for themselves and for their associates. After completing the surveys and gained data, there will be prepared  a report with PLHIV and their associates on the results. There will be organized a PLHIV and associate group meeting and discuss the findings. The key findings of relevance will be formulated and integrated into the trainings that will be organized within the project.

There is also the survey among the professionals covered by the project proposal. This survey is conducting in order to understand the perceptions from those who instigate discriminatory attitudes: both from the health and non-health sectors.

Montenegrin Association against AIDS-CAZAS is implementing the project "Strengthening capacities of PLHIV  in Montenegro". The main goal of this project is strengthened capacities of PLHIV through promotion of Greater Involvement of People living with AIDS principles and providing psycho-social support to them, members of their families, friends and partners. By building PLHIV’s capacities and creating supportive environment, it is hoped that they will eventually be able to organize their own self-support and become active in HIV prevention and AIDS support responses in Montenegro.

PLHIV self-support group meetings will be organized during this project coordinated by the Center staff and a PLHIV person working with the group. There will be 3 experts (psychologist, legal advisor and IDS ) to provide PLHIV with psycho-social and legal support and medical advice.  The AIDS information line operator will receive calls related to HIV and AIDS issues.

Representive of CAZAS from 04-06 October 2008 attended seminar “Improvement of the Social Position of PLHIV” in Mokra Gora, Serbia. Youth of JAZAS organized the meeting, as an important part of its project implemented in partnership with Humanist Institute for Cooperation with Developing Countries – HIVOS, financed by European Commission. The goal of the project is the creation of sustainable mechanisms that will successfully protect human rights of persons living with HIV and allow them complete access to public services and necessary therapy.

Within realization of the project “Support to Implementation of National Strategy for fight against AIDS in Montenegro” supported by The Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria and UNDP Office in Montenegro, CAZAS is conducting the project “Harm Reduction Program among Intravenous Drug Users (IDUs)”. Project is based on is based on two segments: 1) outreach work with IDUs and substitution of contaminated needles and syringes for sterile ones, which are distributed through this program among IDUs, and 2) substitution methadone treatment in Primary Health Care Center Podgorica.

The main barrier of the campaign was National AIDS Commission and CAZAS is part of it. Partners on the campaign were Institute for Public health, Infective clinic in Podgorica, Primary health care center Podgorica, and NGOs Juventas and Monte Vita from Bijelo Polje, Zastita from Bar and Red cross Montenegro.
