CAZAS conducted Campaign on the occasion of 1 December, World AIDS Day. The campaign was organized on national level. The main barrier of the campaign was National AIDS Commission and CAZAS is part of it. Partners on the campaign were Institute for Public health, Infective clinic in Podgorica, Primary health care center Podgorica, and NGOs Juventas and Monte Vita from Bijelo Polje, Zastita from Bar and Red cross Montenegro. General sponsor of the CAZAS’s activities was company Promonte GSM, and others were UNICEF, ORT/MAP, Lovcen insurance AD Podgorica and Rokšped Auto Center.
There was organized campaign „STOP AIDS. Keep the promise. Take the lead! “ in all UN member countries for World AIDS Day, 1. December 2007. This year, global campaign specially pointed at communities leaders in and at their role in the fight against AIDS. It is necessary for each member of the society to contribute to the HIV answer, in order for the number of infected people in Montenegro to remain low. The leaders, barriers of the most important roles in the society, in this case should show the responsibility and take the lead.
Montenegro has signed Declaration on commitment to fight against HIV/AIDS (UNGASS), adopted on special meeting of UN General Assembly. There was also signed Dublin declaration in 2004. This declaration reaffirms goals set in 2001, in regard to making preventive services more accessible, curing, caring, and support to PLWHA or their families and partners, until 2010. Government of Montenegro adopted the Strategy against AIDS (2005-2009) in May 2005. There was developed the project based on the action plan of this Strategy supported by Global fund against AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis. Governmental and nongovernmental sector in Montenegro started implementation of this project in August 2006.
CAZAS’s activities were implemented in the period from November 21 until December 15. There were conducted following activities:
- “Traveling van” – this activity included distribution of the IEC materials (brochures, leaflets, posters and condoms);
- Workshops and lecturers in schools in Podgorica, Budva, Bar and Berane for the students of primary and secondary schools;
- Numerous media activities;
- Street actions in Podgorica, Budva and Berane;
- Street stand in Podgorica;
- Humanitarian concert of the “Bajaga i Instruktori” group in Podgorica;
- the round table discussion on “HIV/AIDS and human rights – stigma and discrimination”.
CAZAS will continue with implementation of similar activities, with help of all young people ready to contribute to the HIV preventive work in Montenegro.
