CAZAS program manager attended seminar “Improvement of the Social Position of PLHIV”, October 04-06 2008, Mokra Gora, Serbia. Youth of JAZAS organized the meeting, as an important part of its project implemented in partnership with Humanist Institute for Cooperation with Developing Countries – HIVOS, financed by European Commission. The goal of the project is the creation of sustainable mechanisms that will successfully protect human rights of persons living with HIV and allow them complete access to public services and necessary therapy.
The focal points of this seminar were human rights of persons living with HIV. One of the objectives was to, with accurate knowledge, assist legislators to take action and make decisions on HIV-related law and policy reform, by providing information on the critical role of human rights in the overall response to the epidemic.
The seminar program lasted approximately a day and a half and was structured primarily in the form of lectures. Topics that were discussed:
- Current legislation in relation to HIV/AIDS in Europe.
- What can be changed in the public sector and among civil society groups to improve the social (legal) position of the people living with HIV?
- What can be changed in the behavior of PLWHA themselves to improve their social (legal) position?
