With the project ,,Peer to peer without fear” supported by Global Fond for AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, and UNDP department in Podgorica as the main grant recipient, within support to implementation of National Strategy for fight against AIDS, CAZAS successfully continues with the implementation of the program of peer education. The project has been implemented through phases since September 2006.
Approximately 16.000 of young people have already been reached within the peer education program in this period (September 2008 – July 2009). The program of peer education includes workshops and tribunes which are organized in cooperation with elementary and high schools across the country. The program also includes the organizing of info stands in the places where the young people usually gather. The largest part of the program have been organized in Podgorica, Pljevlja, Bijelo Polje, Berane, Bar, Tivat, Niksic and Ulcinj. The program of the workshops includes the presentation of epidemiologic picture of HIV/AIDS in Montenegro and the world, the provision of the basic information about HIV/AIDS, about the ways of HIV transmission, emphasizing the non-transmission ways in particular, as well as the importance of fighting stigma and discrimination against PLHIV. The participants are provided with the information about testing on HIV in Montenegro and they are also advised about relevant test-centers. The IPE (info-promo-educational material), and of BCC (behavioral change communication) material and condoms are regularly distributed.
The cooperation of our organization with schools is very good from the beginning of the project, so it continues successfully during this phase of the project.
In the following period (until July, 2009) there will be reached about 2.000 more young people more in the peer education program.
