
There were organized 50 workshopsd in RAE communities within the project „Preventive-educational work with RAE community“, supported by the Global Fund for AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria and UNDP in Podgorica as the main recipient of the funds, during the period from August 2008 to June 2009.
The workshops were held by trained RAE peer educators, and the program reached about 850 members of RAE population. Workshop program includes presentation of HIV/AIDS situation in Montenegro and worldwide, providing basic information on HIV/AIDS, HIV transmission ways, emphasizing the ways how HIV cannot be transmitted, as well as importance of fight against stigma and discrimination against people who live with HIV/AIDS. Peer educators give basic information and explanation on testing on HIV in Montenegro and invite them to get tested in VCT (voluntary counseling and testing) centers. IEP (informational, educational and promotional) and BCC (behavioral communicational change) material, printed at the beginning of the project and condoms are being distributed on continuous basis. Workshops are being organized in cooperation with local partners, NGO’s and local communities.
Experience acquired during those workshops shows that the participants are interested in preventive work and enhancement of their social – economic, as well as health status.
There will be organized 20 educational workshops more in RAE communities in the following period (until July 2009)..
