Online and active for World Roma Day

International Roma Day is celebrated annually on 8 April. On this day, Romani people commemorate the historic first-ever global congress of the International Romani Union which was held near London in 1979 at the initiative of Donald Kenrick and Grattan Puxon of Great Britain, Jarko Jovanović of the former Yugoslavia, Mateo Maximoff representing the Manouche of France, and other Romani representatives and scholars of Romani studies. Nowadays the World Roma day is celebrated by many different campaigns and actions. This year the #OnACT team made a new online campaign “There is a way!”.

#OnAct is an international training that gathered 30 young leaders and activists from youth organizations from 8 countries. Training aims to build capacities of NGOs and their representatives, youth leaders, by training them on how to use social networks and online media as tool for activism, promotion of human rights and visibility. Youth activists and leaders, who will took part in this activity, are the agents of change and the initiative point for any development and change in the community and social development.

Campaign “There is a way!” as part of the training is conducted on 8th of April – World Roma day. The participants developed many materials and developed many educational ideas for the campaign. Complete material was developed by the participants using the tools that were presented at the training. The entire campaign can be followed under #OnACT and #RomaDay!
